Hairstylist Confessions

Shawntelle Peter, a hairstylist that is educated and on point is passionate about hair and her education. She is one that is not afraid of trying new things and enjoys stepping outside the box.   I have had my hair done by Shawntelle ,and I adore her eagerness to constantly learn about the latest trends and her knowledge of hair!

Where do you work?

Lindy’s Shear Creations in O’Neill, Nebraska.

Why did you decide to become a hairstylist?

I always wanted to do hair. I grew up styling my sister’s and doll’s hair. I have curly hair as well, and I was eager to learn how to style and manage it.

Who inspires you?

Sam Villa!   I love his energy and creativity. He does a great job teaching and giving clear explanations about what he is doing.

What is your current favorite coloring technique?

What is your favorite color line?

What is your favorite formula for blondes and brunettes?

For blondes I enjoy using 7NW for lowlights.

A color that is really pretty for brunettes is equal parts of 6n and 5 NGB.

Do you prefer to tone on wet or dry hair?

Depends on how porous the hair is, but generally dried.

What is your favorite salon service you like to do?

What is one hair trick you learned early on in your career that you still use today in the salon?

Point Cutting!

What is your favorite hair styling accessory?

I LOVE my Sam Villa Flat Iron.

What is your favorite shampoo and conditioner you have ever used?

I really like the Pureology Hydrate Sheer! It is conditioning yet light enough that it does not weigh down my curly hair.

What professional hair knowledge do you encourage your clients to know?

I encourage my clients to use professional salon products on their hair to maintain the desired look and the integrity of their hair.

What advice do you have for hairstylist just starting?

It can be a tough industry, but know that education is key and do not ever stop receiving it!

When you are running behind at work, which do you prefer to complete first, your makeup or your hair?

My makeup.

Do you prefer wearing heels or flats when you work?

Do you live off coffee or pop at work?

Neither. I drink a lot of water.

What song best describes your work ethic?

Head Strong by Trapt.

What are three things you cannot live without?

I cannot live without my hair gel, water, and my phone!

In early May I had the joy of getting my hair colored by Shawntelle Peter.  She was very professional and did a beautiful job!  During my appointment Shawntelle let me interview her and I was very impressed with her knowledge!  She is a local stylist who once left this profession and has returned because she missed doing the thing she grew up loving, doing hair. She has clear ideas about what works for her and her clients and was happy to share.

Much Love,

Shawn is amazing! She did her grandmother’s hair and gave Grandma Zak such a boost at times when she needed it!

Great interview. Being the little sister she grew up practicing on I can tell you she is very passionate about what she does. She cares deeply for her clients and is always giving a 100%. Even if she wasn’t my sister she would still be my favorite hairstylist of all time.
